We caught up with Joel Abrego to talk about his music. At Indiy we champion musicians.

What do you enjoy most about being an independent musician?

I enjoy being able to create whatever comes to my mind.

I find it therapeutic and really beautiful.

If we were to peek over your shoulder, what does your studio look like? What gear do you typically use?

To be completely honest with you I would probably laugh!

I don’t have all this fancy equipment and plug-ins but I make what I do have work.

How would you want people to describe your latest project in a tweet?

I would want them to talk about what they think people would enjoy about it and how it can bring people together who also like it.

What makes a good song in your opinion?

The arrangement and emotion it gives you.

Some songs can give you a roller coaster of emotions and others settle emotions which I find amazing.

How do you know when you want to work with an artist or a group or band?

I can usually tell the artists’ intention with music by the quality and effort put into their songs.

When I talk to the artist I try to get to know them first and see if we match vibes haha.

Do you plan your music releases, or do you just finish a song and release it?

I try to plan them out but I haven’t started taking the distribution process seriously until recently.

What can we expect from you within the next 6 months? Any releases planned? Future gigs?

You can expect alot more music than last year and better quality.

Are there any collaborations past or future that you are excited about, producers, artists, instrumentalists, or songwriters?

There are a few that I’m working on now and a few I plan on getting to later on with some amazing artists.

Which artists inspire your creative process?

I get my inspiration from the sounds I hear.

When I hear a good song I pull it apart and see what I like about it and add my own uniqueness to it.

What are your top five favorite albums of all time? Why those albums?

My top three favorite albums right now are 1+7+2, disciple alliance vol.6, and find me.

Where can we find you on social media?

You can find me as @misterfreakshow on Instagram and FREAK SHOW on YouTube.

I am still working on creating more social accounts.
