We caught up with SoFreeYa to talk about her music. At Indiy we champion musicians.

Let's get to it...

Sofreeya is an Indian, Spanish & Irish, British-born experimental artist with spiritual influences who infuses heartfelt songwriting with soul-infused mellifluous melodies to bring us her beautiful and unique songs.

A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, she plays Native American flute, ukulele, guitar, shaman drum, and Celtic folk harp...all of which reinforces her New Age musical flavour

What do you enjoy most about being an independent musician?

The freedom, to choose...to share who I really am from my heart and soul.

My true sound!

If we were to peek over your shoulder, what does your studio look like? What gear do you typically use?

I am borrowing some studio equipment from my friends...

Rode’s mic and shield, Focusrite interface 2nd generation, a pioneer amp and I use Cuebas 10.5 to create the magic! 🙂

Do you enjoy recording and production, or do you like performing live and promotion?

I love recording, yes!...as new flavours and ideas come out when I let loose and get in the zone.

The production side...I am still learning and experimenting with it, but it is fun to explore this new world and mix it up with my acoustic compositions.

Yes! Performing live is exhilarating! I especially enjoy performing at festivals!

Promotion is so necessary and important to get your music out there...but it is my least favourite part and takes time, energy, and persistence and it is an area I could do more in.

How would you want people to describe your latest project in a tweet?

I would like it to be something like...

So Free Ya E.P "a diverse world collection of soul healing melodies and messages straight from one heart to the other!"

Do you plan your music releases, or do you just finish a song and release it?

This is an area that the collective at Goddess Gang assist with.

Before, I would plan the releases yes! But I have not had that many releases and I will be planning and prioritising songs to work on in conjunction with the dates that I plan ahead.

What can we expect from you within the next 6 months? Any releases planned? Future gigs?

Yes, there are a few songs I am working on!

And it looks like ‘Cocoa butter kisses’ could be the next release which would be my first romantic love song!

Future gigs?...Not at the moment as a few venues have closed and my setup is not great for online gigs, but I am feeling I might do an Instagram live show soon!

Are you planning any videos for your music? Are there any videos we need to know about!?

Yes, I am looking to release a music video for my song ‘Wings’, which is going to be an exciting one!

Filming got delayed due to restrictions but once the venue opens again, full steam ahead!

Are there any collaborations, past or future, that you are excited about?

Yes! I'm gonna be working with some other producer friends on some more neo soul jazzy songs.

Also looking to do a song with the ladies from Goddess Gang, Demitra and Moth3r...which will be amazing!

Which artists inspire your creative process?

All my friends and artists at Goddess Gang inspire me fully...

M9 Awakening, Demitra Nicou, Jacqxx, Arcadia, Miss Perspective.

I also love Amy Winehouse, Bob Marley, Tupac, and Oshun.

What are your top favorite albums of all time & why those albums?

The Rose That Grew From Concrete by Tupac
Along with the handwritten book inspired me a lot in my teenage years.

As I went through a lot of trauma and challenges I connected with the positive messages in his songs and felt that I could overcome it and I did!

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill & MTV unplugged live show, are so heartfelt and the songs are masterfully created and sung! They both inspire me always!

Legend - The Best Of Bob Marley And The Wailers 'cos these songs are legendary, positive and so fun to sing and dance along to.

Amy Winehouse - Lioness: Hidden Treasures & Frank and Back To Black are all great!

She is an original! She's passionate, and has a unique powerful classic, a modern voice that has inspired many generations!

Who makes up your existing creative team?
i.e. photographers, video directors, social media managers, paid media specialists, stylists, hair, and makeup…Name someone who you think deserves a special shout-out?

Goddess Gang collective team! We help each other and share our skills!

Arcadia, the producer and sound engineer who mixes and masters, and he also raps.

Gomitre (GPLMedia) does great filming and editing and did my first video 'Butterfly'...

We do our promotions ourselves but sometimes have meetings where we focus on one artist and all do promotions for them.
