Don't focus on getting signed, focus on building a fan-base
Develop a brand and have A&R's chasing you, not the other way round
Top-level A&R's are scared to lose their jobs, so they'll chase where momentum is headed - release on digital stores and consistently put out great music.

Great advice from @scooterbraun for upcoming artists. ONE BIG MISTAKE that early artists make is that they try to get signed, and they have absolutely no strategy for that, they think that the music is what's going to do it for them. But in fact, you see that big label A&R makes their decisions based on data, based on MARKET DEMAND!! So what you really have to do is create a DEMAND, no matter how good your music is!
