We caught up with J Quots to talk about his music. At Indiy we champion musicians.

Let's get to it...

What do you enjoy most about being an independent musician?

Complete control & say of what I create.

If we were to peek over your shoulder, what does your studio look like? What gear do you typically use?

If you were to peek over my shoulder you would see a few mics, two condensers...one that's dynamic!

A few midi keyboards...a vinyl player...a digital camera and some recording equipment and a mic stand set up to record.

Do you enjoy recording and production, or do you like performing live and promotion?

I enjoy creating, collaborating, recording & producing.

How would you want people to describe your latest project in a tweet?

Different & Crazy.

Do you plan your music releases, or do you just finish a song and release it?

I don't currently plan my music releases but I'm thinking of changing that and finishing a song, then plan before releasing it.

What can we expect from you within the next 6 months? Any releases planned? Future gigs?

In the next few months you should be expecting a feature, a single and around 4-8 Beatz.

Are you planning any videos for your music? Are there any videos we need to know about!?

Yes! I'm planning on dropping a lyric video for 'S.O.G. is The Dream' & another music video that will be coming as well but no release date for that one yet...

Are there any collaborations, past or future, that you are excited about?

Yes, the song that I'm featuring on that will be released in the next 6 months, is with an artist, producer, and old classmate from Los Angeles Recording School.

His name is Ed Varez, his IG is @edvarezmusic.

This guy's words are meaningful, he has his own sound and is original, I can hear his music going places so yeah!

I look forward to asking him for a feature in the future!

What inspires your creative process?

My love for music is what inspires me, like growing up...music was my best friend! It moved me! It helped me to pass the time, or go through some sh*t that was happening in life.

Music helped me get through life, and even does to this point in life today.

The music calls me like, I have always written to the beat but it is the beat that makes me move.

I just want to make music from the heart & hope I can help someone in life with music as it did for me.

What are your top three favorite albums of all time and why those albums?

All Eyes On Me ( Remastered) - Tupac
2001 - Dr.Dre
Damn - Kendrick Lamar

These are my top 3 favorite albums to be, due to the lyrical content, the production, & music listened to which held me or inspired me to write & produce my own music.

Who makes up your existing creative team?
i.e. photographers, video directors, social media managers, paid media specialists, stylists, hair, and makeup…Name someone who you think deserves a special shout-out?

As for the existing creative team, i do not have a photographer or a video director.

I manage all my social media & for a shout out...

To my barber, David!... I appreciate you Bro!
