We caught up with Solo Polo to talk about his music. At Indiy we champion musicians.

Let's get to it...

What do you enjoy most about being an independent musician?

The love and genuine feel of being free to create whatever, without feeling restraint to a certain sound, or a certain moniker.

If we were to peek over your shoulder, what does your studio look like? What gear do you typically use?

My studio is home based at my engineer/producer's house.

It’s a small setup in the game room but its comfortable and private.

We typically use Pro Tools and different plug-ins for a different sound.

Do you enjoy recording and production, or do you like performing live and promotion?

I mostly enjoy recording and producing because that’s where the creativity and the artistry is being manifested.

How would you want people to describe your latest project in a tweet?

Saying that I have my own unique style!

Do you plan your music releases, or do you just finish a song and release it?

I plan!

What can we expect from you within the next 6 months? Any releases planned? Future gigs?

Yes I have a project coming called “For The Ones Waiting” which is dropping towards the end of February.

I also am live on stage, February 21st, for a fashion show giving back to the homeless, and supporting black-owned clothing lines.

Are you planning any videos for your music? Are there any videos we need to know about!?

Yes, I am planning a lot of visuals for 2021 starting with the single off the “For The Ones Waiting” project called, “In My Own Lane.”

Are there any collaborations, past or future, that you are excited about?

Not really...I don’t collab too much with new artists unless it’s somebody close to me.

Which artists inspire your creative process?

The most high! It’s all God who puts The Spirit on me to write what I feel, or witness, or to tell somebody else’s story.

Then of course...my son! Who I want to leave a legacy for.

What are your top three favorite albums of all time and why those albums?

Thriller
Michael Jackson was my very first favorite artist, and this album just speaks for itself.

I personally feel like if I can play your album, from start to finish, no skips, then you're definitely talented!

Purple Reign
Future is my second favorite artist, the way he changed hip-hop really goes unnoticed.

He merged RnB and the auto-tune with 808 and trap, making it soulful trap.
It’s like hearing 1980s Luther Vandross and 2006 Gucci Mane come together.

This project is a great example of how he’s able to cultivate the core fans and new listeners.

Tha Carter 3
Lil Wayne is obviously the best rapper to ever live!

And what made this album so great is that the original Carter 3 got leaked before its release and Wayne recorded a whole new album! And that's how we got this Carter 3!

His wordplay and rhyme scheme is unmatched...He’s a true MC!

Who makes up your existing creative team?
i.e. photographers, video directors, social media managers, paid media specialists, stylists, hair, and makeup…Name someone who you think deserves a special shout-out?

I want to give a few special shoutouts...

Starting with my producer and engineer, J’Whateva, who really is the scientist behind my sound.

Also, I want to give a shoutout to Los, Miguel, and G!

For believing in me and seeing the potential in my music.

It means a lot coming from Dallas, Texas... Where we don’t have a Gucci Mane or a Birdman or a J Prince.

Where can we find you on social media?

You can follow me on Instagram @solopolo214 and you can google 'Solo Polo' or my YouTube is YPG Solo Polo.
