We caught up with Ace Wild to talk about his music. At Indiy we champion musicians.
Let's get to it...
What I enjoy most about being an independent musician is the grind.
It keeps a struggling artist humble, while also creating a constant hunger to be better.
You would usually see my screen filled up with a session or two pulled up on my DAW!
My studio consists of my monitor, a pair of Yamaha HS7 studio monitors (speakers), a UA Apollo Twin X (audio interface), a pair of AT ATH-M50x headphones, and a Maschine 2 Midi Controller.
I use my studio about 99% of the time...
Whenever I use someone else's, it's to record a feature for that person.
I have done some of my own engineering, but I usually send my tracks out to be engineered by someone with more experience.
I love the recording process of a song or project.
I have a DIY vocal booth set up that allows me to stay creative and comfortable in my own zone.
And I do my own production for my projects, which also helps the process run smoothly.
The most fun part of being an artist is the live performances!
There is nothing I can compare them to!
Promotion is fun as well, but being an independent artist can make it hard sometimes.
You have to have the right tools and drive to really push your content.
"Ace Wild seems to be carefree, energetic, and especially unique."
I try my best to plan releases at a time when it seems most fitting.
I do a lot of studying when it comes to the music industry and how the statistics break down for certain days of the week, world events, time of day, etc.
Since the crisis of COVID 19, it's been hard to generate the material that I truly want people to hear from me.
Within the next 6 months I will be pushing out the most content I have in almost a year.
My new album will drop this summer, with five singles leading up to the release.
I also plan on dropping five brand new music videos.
My first ever run of merchandise will be designed and ready to go very soon.
And I have the first gig of 2021 in my hometown of La Crosse, Wisconsin on Saturday Feb. 27th...
I will be headlining this performance!
I dropped my first music video in the fall of 2020, for a single off of my second EP.
The next videos that I will be releasing this year will all be connected to my upcoming album.
I have an absolutely crazy track with one of the best independent artists today sitting in the bank.
I will be releasing it within the next couple of months, with a video, as a single off of my upcoming album.
Other than that track, I have the some of the best talent from my area scattered amongst the track list of the soon to be released project.
I produce my own beats and instrumentals...
but I have a few producers in mind that I'd love to work with!
Building beats and instrumentals is the base foundation of my creative process.
I usually jot down topics or ideas before I jump into a session and if I hear something that fits that, I attack it.
In no particular order, my top three favorite albums of all time would be...
ADHD by Joyner Lucas
Came a Long Way - Demrick
And Kamikaze - Eminem
ADHD has such a crazy vibe, flipping from mainstream material, back to the most creative concepts I've ever heard.
Joyner Lucas is definitely up there on my favorites list of artists - all time.
"Came A Long Way" by Demrick was the first hip-hop album I 100% fell in love with!
I was a big fan of pop punk, metal, hardcore, and rock before hip hop made its imprint on me.
When I first started rapping, Demrick was the first larger artist I got the chance to talk to about everything that comes with it.
I saw him perform in Madison Wisconsin a few years ago, and I fell in love with his content instantly.
The release of Kamikaze can explain my feelings by any single track.
This album dropped at a time that I hadn't been exposed to too much of Slim Shady.
This was when I really started to fall into the rabbit hole and he will forever be the G.O.A.T!
I recently decided to start working with the amazing team over at Pearl LLC Photography and Cinematography.
They were the ones who shot my first video and will be doing more of my work in the near future.
My friend Connor of CFD (Connor Fredrick Designs) does my graphic work (album art, designs, merchandise designs, etc.)
I believe he deserves a special shout out for sticking with me through the craziness of the last year.
We were on the rise together and then the pandemic hit.
