DAVID HAYNES III

Andrea

We caught up with David Haynes III aka Flee to talk about his art form. At Indiy we champion artists.

Let's get to it...

What do you enjoy most about being an independent musician?

I love the freedom that it gives me as a creative...

To truly produce innovative material & content that will push the hip hop culture forward.

If we were to peek over your shoulder, what does your studio look like? What gear do you typically use?

I have a Scarlet $200 Set up on Ableton Live.

And I use my Beats by Dre pro solo headphones as my reference monitors.

I believe the magic isn’t in the equipment but in the soul & heart of a human being.

Do you enjoy recording and production, or do you like performing live and promotion?

I enjoy recording.

I don’t enjoy live performances because of my shy personality!

How would you want people to describe your latest project in a tweet?

INNOVATIVE...UNIFYING...GHETTO ACADEMIA! haha!

They would be the perfect four words to describe my latest published work...

Because I’m always looking to innovate not imitate!

You know the old way wasn’t working, so it’s time to try something new!

Ya know what I mean!?

Do you plan your music releases, or do you just finish a song and release it?

When I get that feeling...I need musical healing! haha!

I just go with the “Vibes of the Times” when I feel data that needs to be deciphered in the ether hit my melanin skin...

That’s when I know the universe wanna hear Flee's opinion on another Shabbat Day Freestyle!

What can we expect from you within the next 6 months? Any releases planned? Future gigs?

Umm...You can expect a few things!

First, is a comic series I’m working on with artists, Peter Donahue & my guy, J CZAR...dope artists!

Their artwork is so awesome!

And all the characters & concepts were created by me, about 6 years ago, when I was working on releasing a 12” vinyl figure.

But the manufacturing & packaging costs was thru the roof!

And the demand for non-kaws companion vinyl figures was NON EXISTENT at the time!

So I scrapped the project and a few years later, around 2018, I started writing my first book titled “LAND OF FIRE”...

And as I was writing this 60,000 + word novel...about black economic liberation in the future...

I realized 180 Pages was not enough to fully tell the story!

And give black kids the blueprint to a future of true freedom from this oppressing system.

So I wrote 4 books & 1 graphic novel, which consists of 7 individual comic books.

The comic books will be released starting Juneteenth 2021!

And we will be releasing a free comic, March 3rd 2021, anywhere where comics is available!

And you can download the PDF version from TheGhoulComics.com.

Are you planning any videos for your music? Are there any videos we need to know about!?

Honestly, I like audio!

I rather your imagination be the visual!

Imma big fan of THE LATE GREAT MF DOOM and he was big on ‘being heard and not seen!’

Because the message is more important than the visual propaganda a lot of these record labels try to shove down your throat to sell you a bunch of unnecessary products.

Me Personally...I love shopping at The Gap & Old Navy because consumerism is killing our youth!

Do you see these suicide & depression rates last year in 2020?

It was ridiculous!...

So it’s our job as men of honor to change the culture in our communities.

And that starts with less status quo videos, and more message-laced music, ya know!

Are there any collaborations, past or future, that you are excited about?

Umm...I’m excited to work with my staff and art department!

Also the models...I definitely love all the Models! haha!

I guess I’m trying to say that I’m excited about working with everyone at (Oh•Të•hM)™ Entertainment & IVY Corporation...

Which are the companies I started with my various family members and black men.

So seeing these geniuses get their vision out into the universe is exciting to me!

Because so many brothers got something to say!

But the black conservative voices are being silenced all over the world, so we just creating outlets for center-Right creatives.

Sort of like what Ben Shapiro is doing for Gena Carano, so we just creating platforms to give everyone a voice.

What inspires your creative process?

Struggle, persecution & hebrew culture.

What are your top three favorite albums of all time & why?

Nas - Illmatic
Jay Z - The Blueprint
The Beatles - Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band

These 3 Albums, I would like placed in my coffin when I die around 66 years old! haha!

Nas embodies the God body in me that I was raised on as a 5 Percenter!

Jay Z's 'The Blueprint' is that soul beat hustler music that keeps me getting to a bag...

So I need that most definitely! MONEY MAKE THE WORLD GO AROUND!

And I need The Beatles Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band because when struggling & persecution gets me down, I just listen to this album straight through, top to bottom, and just reset my mind!

Because The Beatles' music is so powerful, it can just heal the soul!

And give you a refreshing perspective...even in deep dark times.

Who makes up your existing creative team?
i.e. photographers, video directors, social media managers, paid media specialists, stylists, hair, and makeup…Name someone who you think deserves a special shout-out?

Well, it’s Me...CEO & Founder!

My brother, Kev Don, is the chief financial officer.

Peter Donahue, director of the art department.

And umm...we got Cezar Olivaraz, penciling panels for The Ghoul Comic Series we have.

Models - Lil Benji & Shunti from Instagram...

Beautiful & Special Model Management (IBS MODELS)

And as far as a videographer...we are not really into videos right now! Use your own imagination! LOL!
