We caught up with Distortion to talk about his music. At Indiy we champion musicians.
Let's get to it...
I love the freedom and ability to express whatever I feel with no creative control.
I feel like I can also gain a more organic fan base through personal interactions with fans.
I work in a small but functional studio that has been treated with fibreglass acoustic panels as well as foam panels.
I work off a focusrite scarlett 2i2 Gen 3 interface, with Yamaha HS5 monitors, and of course I run pro tools.
I love recording and engineering music...
That's where I feel at home but I'm also a beast on a stage!
Not trying to toot my horn but if you ever come to a Distortion show, I guarantee you will leave blown away, or your money back!
That's how much confidence I have in my live show!
I would want people to describe it as "moving", or "inspirational".
My latest single 'Feeling' is all about those times you feel like your just coasting through life...
But you just have to keep going to get to that point you always knew you could be at.
For years I just finished a song and released it!
But since I teamed up with my manager, Martin, we have taken a whole new approach to how we release music.
The next 6 months are going to be big!
Through the support of Queensland Music, I have music planned for release every month.
I'm also chipping away at a new project with a whole new vibe and sound that is going to be released alongside a BTS series...
Going more in-depth with how each song gets made, and the creative process that goes with it
If you haven't seen it already go and check out my music video for the track 'Awards' with my homie Biz.
I also have a video dropping on the 10th of March for my song 'Feeling' so make sure to watch out for that!
It's our first cinematic music video so you're in for a treat.
I've done collabs with my homies, Biz and Rojo RMG, that dropped earlier this year...
But I have a couple of songs coming up featuring Cking, CVNDYMVN, Epifane, and Acizm.
If I could do a collaboration with any artist currently, it would be Chris Webby, NF, or Russ!
These guys inspire me to create dope music.
I also have a goal to be in the same room with Scott Storch making some fire tracks.
Life inspires me!
I like to bring my own experiences to a place where everybody feels like they can relate and find some solace or peace in the fact that we all go through some sh*t sometimes.
And I also get inspired whenever I hear a melody that does not leave my head...
I have to work on it then and there!
My top album of all time is Dr. Dre '2001'...It's a classic hip-hop album!
And to this day those songs still hold their value with each generation that hears them.
Number 2 would be Eminem's 'The Eminem Show'.
I have listened to this album almost every day since I was 12 years old!
I feel it's a timeless piece of music within hip hop and all genres.
And number 3 is Chris Webby's 'Wednesday After Next'.
Webby continually inspires me to be the best I can be...I will work with him one day!
I only hope we can create something as equally dope as 'Wednesday After Next'.
My team consists of myself and my manager, Martin Pedriera.
He is a beast at getting things done when I need him to!
Always has my back...
And he also helps me a lot with the creative process when there's not a studio session...partly 'cause he let me build my studio in his house!
