We caught up with Gods Illest Joe to talk about his music. At Indiy we champion musicians.

Let's get to it...

What do you enjoy most about being an independent musician?

The power to control my own creativity!

There is no limit to what I can do...

Or who I can work with…

or when I drop a project!

If we were to peek over your shoulder, what does your studio look like? What gear do you typically use?

I recently invested in my own recording equipment due to the covid pandemic.

I did at one point in time have an engineer...

Now I'm more hands-on with my own setup.

I work from my MacBook Pro using various software, like pro tools… logic...

The typical industry standards!

Do you enjoy recording and production, or do you like performing live and promotion?

All of it!!

I mean it's a package deal...

If you don’t have a love for one part of it...You can’t enjoy the rest of what comes with it!

It’s exciting to interact with new crowds, and platforms…for me at least.

It’s always an adventure right!! Haha!

How would you want people to describe your latest project in a tweet?

“What we needed in the rap game!!”

Do you plan your music releases, or do you just finish a song and release it?

It honestly all depends on the vibe of the song and the moment, and what music came before, and how that was released!

If the buzz is drawing for it and calling on it...Unexpectedly...Let’s drop it!

If we have a year plan or 6-month plan...

Then we record, gather records and do a strategic release.

What can we expect from you within the next 6 months? Any releases planned? Future gigs?

Most definitely have some releases coming, very soon...

A major single.

Followed up with a project release.

I'm not sure just yet if it will be an EP or something full-length...

Are you planning any videos for your music? Are there any videos we need to know about!

I do have a few planned visuals to capture!

It’s been a while since I last put out a music video, unfortunately...

So it’s needed, like, sooner than later!

And it has to be a crazy dope one too!

Something I’ve never done before...

So time will tell...

The people just gotta stay tuned!

Are there any collaborations past or future that you are excited about, producers, artists, instrumentalists or songwriters?

There isn’t...It’s a new slate, new movement!

The past is the past.

I like to work in the ever-present and future.

Not to discredit the past, but I can’t live in my prior accomplishments if I’m trying to grow and do better than before!

What inspires your creative process?

Life. Moments. Events. Daily living man...

Real things I went through or experienced!

What are your top three favorite albums of all time? Why those albums?

Jay Z: The Blueprint.

This album solidifies my high school years and life. Amazing album. So many memories with this one here.

The LOX: We Are The Streets.

Street rap classic. Forever will be. You can’t speak rap without mentioning this album right here.

N.O.R.E: Melvin Flynt - Da Hustler.

Can’t think of one bad song on this album. I can’t. Who wasn’t saying “what what” back in the hay day of rap and hip hop music? I know I was!

Who makes up your existing creative team?i.e. photographers, video directors, social media managers, paid media specialists, stylists, hair, and makeup…Name someone who you think deserves a special shout out?

I hate to say it but myself as far as the ideas and the images.

I would shout out my daughter's mother for my recent styles...

She’s been making sure I look the part, she’s my stylist!

I was trying to put a team together some time ago...

Things didn’t go as planned and we just went different ways in life.

I mean, I’m talking personal date to date assistant, engineer, creative director, graphic designer, videographer...

The whole shabang!

Where can we find you on social media?

Everything is 'Gods Illest Joe'...

And when I say everything, I mean everything!

My Facebook is Gods Illest Joe. My Instagram is @GodsIllestJoe. My Twitter is Gods Illest Joe. My Snapchat is GodsIllestJoe....

All my videos on YouTube are under GodsIllest Joe.

All my music on all DSPs will be under Gods Illest Joe.

And last but not least, my SoundCloud, is under Gods Illest Joe as well.

Much love
