We caught up with Hurrikane The Poet to talk about his art form. At Indiy we champion artists.

What do you enjoy most about being an independent musician?

The immediate response from, and access I have to an audience.

If we were to peek over your shoulder, what does your studio look like? What gear do you typically use?

TASCAM, Samsung, Thump, Mackie and Apple!

Do you enjoy recording and production, or do you like performing live and promotion?

I truly enjoy recording and the production of the material...

But I am known for most loving performing.

And promoting it!

How would you want people to describe your latest project in a tweet?

"The most soul-filled pimp! Demand for respirations possible!"

Do you plan your music releases, or do you just finish a song and release it?

It has previously been a combination of both.

What can we expect from you within the next 6 months? Any releases planned? Future gigs?

Due to Covid the next couple of 6 months are pretty up in the air!

The plan is to continue releasing music online...

Focusing on Spotify and Apple, and all other streaming platforms.

Are you planning any videos for your music? Are there any videos we need to know about!?

Yes! I just completed a slideshow video that contains a historical photograph pertaining to the movies...

The Mack, Roots, Coming to America.

And a demand for reparations!

Are there any collaborations, past or future, that you are excited about?

I don't know if it's considered a collaboration!

But I utilize Patti LaBelle, Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye and myself all on one track.

The track is called 'Who Do You Think You Are?'.

What inspires your creative process?

In the hood, we call it "putting a little paint where it ain't"!

But that breakdown just means expressing the lineage...

And the excellence of the melanated empire.

What is your top favorite album of all time & why?

Eric B and Rakim paid in full.

Just the delivery the flow and the excellence in the deep selections

Who makes up your existing creative team?
i.e. photographers, video directors, social media managers, paid media specialists, stylists, hair, and makeup…Name someone who you think deserves a special shout-out?

At this point, most of those jobs are held by me.
