We caught up with M.J.Olden to talk about his music. At Indiy we champion musicians.

What do you enjoy most about being an independent musician?

I enjoy being free to create whatever I feel.

And not having to have it done in a set frame of time.

If we were to peek over your shoulder, what does your studio look like? What gear do you typically use?

I work from home.

I use my laptop, keyboard, mic, and interface.

Do you enjoy recording and production, or do you like performing live and promotion?

I love both equally!

There's a certain satisfaction that I get from performing, that I may not get from production, and vice versa.

How would you want people to describe your latest project in a tweet?

"The best album you haven't heard yet!"

Do you plan your music releases, or do you just finish a song and release it?

That depends on my mood or the time it takes to fully complete a track!

What can we expect from M.J.Olden within the next 6 months? Any releases planned? Future gigs?

My second LP...coming soon!

Are you planning any videos for your music? Are there any videos we need to know about!?

A video for my newest single 'Mine' will be shot within the next week!

Are there any collaborations, past or future, that you are excited about?

My friends are some of the most talented artists I know!

It's always a pleasure working with them!

What inspires your creative process?

I just say and play whatever it is I feel!

What are your top three favorite albums of all time & why?

Prince - 1999
The Notorious B.I.G. - Ready to Die
Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly

Those albums inspired my creativity as a performer and musician in ways that I cannot explain.

Who makes up your existing creative team?
i.e. photographers, video directors, social media managers, paid media specialists, stylists, hair, and makeup…Name someone who you think deserves a special shout-out?

I don't really have a "team" per se...

My go-to videographer is my homegirl Phy (@visualsbyphy on IG) who's an amazing & talented young lady.

And my brother Rell (@rell_thebarber1) is my barber.

My fades are always sharp. ???? ????????
