We caught up with Paul Levinson to talk about his music. At Indiy we champion musicians.

Let's get to it...

What do you enjoy most about being an independent musician?

I can write and perform a song and get it out to the world without needing anyone's approval.

If we were to peek over your shoulder, what does your studio look like?

I sometimes record in studios, but with the COVID lockdown...

I have been doing it at home in my studio office.

Do you enjoy recording and production, or do you like performing live and promotion?

I enjoy both...

But I do like recording and production a little more!

How would you want people to describe your latest project in a tweet?

"A blend of lyrics and music that harken back to the Beatles and Beach Boys, but are hard to categorize."

Do you plan your music releases, or do you just finish a song and release it?

I just finish a song and release it!

What can we expect from you within the next 6 months? Any releases planned? Future gigs?

At least one or two new songs.

And more virtual performances at science fiction conferences.

Are you planning any videos for your music? Are there any videos we need to know about!?

Here's an example...

Are there any collaborations, past or future, that you are excited about?

Chris Hoisington produced my most recent album...

'Welcome Up: Songs of Space and Time' which I released in 2020.

We recorded it at Old Bear Studios, with Jeremy Thompson on guitars, Steve Padin on drums and keyboard, and Chris doing background harmonies...

I'm looking forward to collaborating with them again!

What inspires your creative process?

Life!

What are your top three favorite albums of all time & why?

Rubber Soul, Revolver, and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band...

The Beatles remain my all-time favorite group!

And those are my three favorite albums, song for song, lyrics, and the music and production...

No other album compares with those three!

Who makes up your existing creative team?
i.e. photographers, video directors, social media managers, paid media specialists, stylists, hair, and makeup…Name someone who you think deserves a special shout-out?

I already mentioned Chris Hoisington, Jeremy Thompson, and Steve Padin at Old Bear Records.

Anthony Hoisington does some great keyboard, too.

Don Frankel played accordion on my 1972 LP, 'Twice Upon A Rhyme', and again on my 2020 album 'Welcome Up: Songs of Space and Time'.

Peter Rosenthal played guitars on 'Twice Upon a Rhyme', and co-wrote two of the songs on 'Welcome Up' with me.

Joel Iskowitz has done illustrations for the covers of my novels, and also my compilation album, 'Spun Dreams'.

All of these folks deserve shout-outs!
