We caught up with Tay Bangz to talk about his music. At Indiy we champion musicians.

Let's get to it...

What do you enjoy most about being an independent musician?

I love how much I can be myself without boundaries.

People relate to a lot of things, and It feels amazing to know they can relate to me through my songs.

If we were to peek over your shoulder, what does your studio look like? What gear do you typically use?

I usually have a go to engineer at my usual studio but lately I’ve been trying to find new places to record so I can expand.

The studio vibe will always be my favorite - there’s no place like it!

Do you enjoy recording and production, or do you like performing live and promotion?

I love the whole process of recording for sure.

Performing is more like a confirmation that I did what I needed to in the studio, so that’s a great feeling too.

How would you want people to describe your latest project in a tweet?

"Honest."

I think the more I do music...the more personal it gets.

My next projects go more in-depth with things that I deal with.

Do you plan your music releases, or do you just finish a song and release it?

I plan all my releases. I think timing is everything.

What can we expect from you within the next 6 months? Any releases planned? Future gigs?

I plan to drop my next tape very soon, maybe in March.

I’m also planning to collab with some big people this year, so I’m looking forward to that as well.

Are you planning any videos for your music? Are there any videos we need to know about!?

I have two music videos out now - one for my song “In The Morning” and another for my song “Long Way To Go”.

I’m definitely going to get more videos out this year too.

Sometimes I’m too selective but I think all my songs deserve a video.

Are there any collaborations, past or future, that you are excited about?

I have some big features I’ve discussed already but I’m more so waiting on the right time to actually get them done.

I really want to work with some singers and even a live band if possible.

What inspires your creative process?

The things we go through on a daily basis really keep me grounded and allow me to write songs with more meaning.

Everything about life inspires me - the pain and the joy.

What are your top five favorite albums of all time and why those albums?

I have a lot of albums that are timeless to me but the three I’ll say are:

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
Nothing Was The Same
And “Take Care

Who makes up your existing creative team?
i.e. photographers, video directors, social media managers, paid media specialists, stylists, hair, and makeup…Name someone who you think deserves a special shout-out?

Dj Jayhood was one of the first people to see potential in me and help me expand, so shout out to the whole Bad Ink team.

I also want to shout out Tsu Surf, who also gave me a chance to show everyone and myself what I was capable of.

I'm looking for photographers and media managers right now, but so far I’ve been managing to meet people who I know I could always refer to.

Where can we find you on social media?

All of my social media platforms are @TayBangz.

You can find me on all streaming platforms as well.
