We caught up with Tyrant Aka Ty to talk about his music. At Indiy we champion musicians.

What do you enjoy most about being an independent musician?

The freedom to explore different techniques and being able to do your own thing...

And not having someone in your ear telling you what you can and can’t do.

Owning your music and masters is a must!

If we were to peek over your shoulder, what does your studio look like? What gear do you typically use?

Well you aren’t ever gonna catch me in the studio without my partner...

My engineer Rodney Barnett aka Rodtakeflight.

Always using the top of the line gear but we gotta keep all our secrets on lock!

Do you enjoy recording and production, or do you like performing live and promotion?

I love recording!

Both me and Rod being graduates from The Sheffield Institute for the Recording Arts...

Hearing it all come together...the adrenaline rush comes from bringing the high intensity!

And the energy when performing live...it’s like no other!

Being able to connect with fans and really feel their vibes and how they're feeling...

It’s a moment you truly have control of!

How would you want people to describe your latest project in a tweet?

"Amazing", "Creative", or "????????????????????"

Do you plan your music releases, or do you just finish a song and release it?

I plan it out!

It all revolves around a certain date, or, when I think is the proper moment in times.

What can we expect from you within the next 6 months? Any releases planned? Future gigs?

A new video for a new single.

Plus about 3 more releases in between whilst I'm working on a new album so keeping busy with releases...

As well as a new merch release.

Are you planning any videos for your music? Are there any videos we need to know about!?

I have plenty on YouTube already!

Old ones though, besides the recent “verse" video.

But I have one on the way for my new single 'Worlds Never Seen'.

Are there any collaborations, past or future, that you are excited about?

Bandhunta Jugg and I just released a track called 'More or Less'.

But I’ve worked with Marley B from Tucson, Arizona.

And Rome Music from Houston, Texas.

And I've also had the privilege to perform with Dizzy Wright in Va.

What inspires your creative process?

Just being in a mood, or feeling a beat...

Or even hearing a song that just gets you vibing!

That moment when you can't stop and the music just starts flowing...

You know something great's about to happen!

What are your top favorite albums of all time & why?

The Marshall Mathers LP - Eminem
It's one of the greatest albums of all time, period!

Victory Lap - Nipsey Hussle
The stories and the motivation of the business

And K.I.D.S - Mac Miller
Really helped me to figure out what flow really could be.

Oh and Purple Rain - Prince!

Who makes up your existing creative team?
i.e. photographers, video directors, social media managers, paid media specialists, stylists, hair, and makeup…Name someone who you think deserves a special shout-out?

My engineer, producer, partner and long time friend Rod Barnett aka RodTakeFlight.

I tell him all the time...without him there’s no Tyrant!

And of course, my beautiful girlfriend, who pushes me every day to kill it.
